virtually every leading character in every tv show is straight, white, and male, and 90% of hardcore fans are none of those things, and fandoms engage in “genderswap" and “raceswap" fancasting and slash shipping on a massive scale in order to make their media reflect more of their personal experiences, and the show creators go, “oh, i have a fun and innovative idea the fans will love: another straight white guy!”
