Aggregate Adventure: A Homestuck Co-op platformer

So this is something I’ve been working on for the past couple of months. I was lucky enough to be able to take the summer off, so I decided to make a video game. It consumed my life.

Aggregate Adventure is a Homestuck-themed 2-player co-op platforming game.

2-player co-op?

Yep! I really enjoy co-op games, and I find that the majority of multiplayer games today are competetive, so I wanted to make something different. AA is all about cooperation with a friend. Work together to explore the Medium, collect and build up a huge hoard of grist, take on monsters, and keep each other alive.

Can I play it with someone online?

Not yet, but soon! I know that online multiplayer is likely to be a big deal for a lot of people, and it’s the top-priority on my to-do list. I wasn’t able to include it right from the beginning because I wanted to work out how the game would actually play first. Also, I’ve never made a video game before.

For now, you can play locally with a friend at the same computer. I know sharing the keyboard gets a bit cramped, but it’s the best I can do until I get online play working.

Can I play it by myself?

Yes. The game is designed to be played by 2 people, but you CAN also play it alone by alternating control between both characters. Or, if you’re incredibly ambitious and dextrous (ambidextrous?), you can control both characters at once if you change the keybinds around a bit.

Requirements:

I built this project in GameMaker Studio, so your computer will need to have DirectX 9 or higher installed (you probably already have it). For the moment it is only available on Windows.

The game runs in a 1080×720 sized window, so your screen resolution will need to be at least that size.

NOTICE:

This is a very (very) early build, so the game is nowhere near finished. Almost everything, from mechanics to artwork, is going to be revised, reworked, or replaced at a future date. I wanted to release an early version now because, even as it is, I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with it, and I thought others might as well. Also I needed a bit of a kick in the pants to keep working on it.

Send me ur bees

I’m actively developing this game, so if you have any feedback, I’d really like to hear it. Too easy? Too hard? Worst game you’ve ever played? Best thing ever? Let me know what you think.

If you encouter bugs (e.g. being stuck in a wall), or crashes, or (especially!) if the download is not working, please tell me about those too. Contact me through the Requests & Inquiries page.
