And Equius wouldn’t be able to mistake Gamzee for Terezi.

Not only that, but via Terezi’s glasses, Gamzee sent a ‘honk’ to Karkat here, which led to Karkat contacting Equius about what was going on. Only then Equius decided to actually “l00k into it”. This resulted in Equius being murdered by Gamzee, Nepeta witnessing it and pouncing into her own demise.

Of course there are still many factors playing into this whole scenario, but if this pans out just the right way Equius and Nepeta could be saved. For now.
