I didn’t understand the joke until I learned Honey was Latina.

it would have been so much easier to understand if, you know, they actually made her look latina

So you’d rather she be stereotypical?

Well that explains why she rolls the R in Hiro’s name.

“they actually made her look latina”

Latinos don’t have a “look.” It’s an ethnicity, not a race.

the whole issue with honey lemon is basically disney fans excusing its blatant xenophobia (as always) and playing the ‘im not racist, you’re racist’ card. disney doesnt get a prize for trying (very very poorly imo), least support for white washing a supposedly poc character.
but okay, let’s have a look at her design: white skin, blonde hair, green eyes. she looks like a gringa, not a role model which little latinas can identify with. if anything, it will pressure them to acqurire a caucasian look (dye their hair, wear contacts, feel their dark features are unacceptable) since this character introduced as latina portrays it. it harms more than it serves representation, and i am absolutely disgusted by people (even other US born latinos) blind enough to let it slip (you arrogant assholes).
it’s true that latinos dont have a “”“signature look”“”, but let me tell you: chances of a latina looking like that are fewer than one with dark skin. the thing that outrages me the most is that, IF they meant to create a latin american character while avoiding “”“”“”“”“”“”“”“stereotypical looks”“”“”“”“”“”“”“, then it was enough with white skin and dark hair/eyes; or green eyes and dark skin/hair; etc. but they didnt. they straight up designed a white looking girl, and yall go defending them. frustration is not enought to describe how i feel about it all.
i really want someone to explain to me why a dark skinned latino with strong features and a thick accent is something to be ashamed of (that’s what more than 50% of latin american people look like, get over it), it’s not their fault that your shitass white country turned them into an offensive joke. you owe them. i mean, the fact that they cannot be presented in media because they immediately will become a target of racism should be enough for yall to wake up.
i see these “”“”stereotypical”“”” latinos everyday; they’re my neighbours, my family and my friends. dark skinned latinos are average and should be the first in line to be casted, but somehow we end up with honey lemons not only in gringo productions but also in our own media. (hope yall figure out how white supremacy settles around the world at this point without me explaining cause im past my bedtime already.)

tl;dr: fuku all who think disney does a decent work regarding representation u fuckign make me sick
