i don’t typically hate people. I’m just hugely disappointed in her. I used to love her books, and I have to admit I can’t help but love them still, but I’ve found out about all the shit she’s been pulling off all this time and im :))))
- she basically plagiarized half of her whole series (more on that in this post)
- she almost got a girl kicked out of university just bc she’s petty
- she manipulates fans? a girl posted her opinion on the books (it was just an article about plagiarism she shared) // cc replied that it made her cry and her stans attacked the girl // it ended up with the girl in a mess of tears and saying that she deserved the hate she’s getting
- god forbid somebody to express negative opinions on her books. if you’re unlucky enough to be picked as her target, she’ll play victim and her fans will drag you to the hell and back
- she’s!!! SO!!! spiteful!!! it’s unbelievable how petty and spiteful and bitter she can be. have you seen the way she treats the tv show adaptation of her books?
- basically, she tweets about one of her characters being asexual+aromantic. obviously, this has a huge response from the ace/aro community because let’s be honest their representation in media is literally non-existent. then she takes it back saying it’s just a headcanon 🙂 everyone can have headcanons 🙂 you’re the literal author???? what you say is canon how are you headcanoning your own characters??? it was just a stupid excuse because she for some reason changed her mind about the character (Rafael Santiago) being ace, aro.

- did i mention how horrible she is to the show? if you think i’m exaggerating, i assure you im not. one example out of many: before we knew that there was going to be an arranged marriage between Alec and Lydia, cc got asked “what would you never make a part of the shadow world?” guess what she replied with? arranged marriage. and we didn’t even know it’s shade back then. like, it’s such childish, bitter, obvious shade, what was she even thinking about, there’s an arranged marriage in her books (tmi). Celine and Stephen. she literally played herself it’s pathetic

If you need one reason to watch and promote the hell out of the show, it’s that CC has no creative control over it and is incredibly salty about it. I personally love it for many reasons and I want it to become the definitive version of that fictional universe.
oh don’t forget her reaction to accusations of plagiarism was “that’s not a thing” then “I know a lawyer and she says that’s not a thing” “oh everyone does it” and encouraged her fans to plagiarise, there was this massive wave of bannings because young fans didn’t know it wasn’t acceptable because she told them to
the new fandom has a kneejerk reaction to old fans because of it
then there is her Sherrilyn Kenyon lawsuit which makes so much sense. When the book was announced they were called Darkhunters which Kenyon has copyrighted forever, Clare maintained it was a coincidence, the publisher demanded she changed it and as part of the cease and desist she was not to use the term shadowhunters to promote the work at all, because of the Darkhunter books, so they were called the Mortal Instruments
Clare changed agent (apparently she does this as often as her socks) and didn’t inform them of the covenant and so they sold, in good faith, the licence and there was a cough cough cough reaction from Kenyon’s publishers in regards to the movie which was pretty much dropped as soon as word got out because of it, they set the movie to bomb rather than risk the legal action
she then sold the option to ABC again not telling them about the covenant not to use the term Shadowhunters in promotion because of it’s similarity to KEnyon’s
The similarities between some of the books were so pronounced that when they shared a publisher they published Clare’s books under the Darkhunter imprint by mistake.
So she’s being sued for copyright infringement by Kenyon and breach of covenant, and if it goes to trial it’s likely ABC will either drop Shadowhunters to avoid the drama or at best completely rebrand it – and it’s all because of Clare
