i think the reason it makes me cry so much is that it’s disguised as a gay desert party that’s happy and colorful and boy do i wish it was just that. but not only do they all die in the videos, but the songs are sadder than they seem and they represent growing up and moving on (and getting better!). the songs themselves are so upbeat, but they hold so much sadness and power. like, the “remember me”s at the beginning of the only hope for me is you break my fucking heart. “you can run away with me any time you want” from summertime? that lyric and that whole song is just so emotional. “we can live forever if you’ve got the time” from save yourself i’ll hold them back? wow. the entirety of sing is a message of hope with an undertone of sadness that’s punctuated by the video. there’s so much death and rebirth and death symbolism and i can’t articulate it right now but i will someday soon. that album just means so much to me.
