Wendy Davis is going to be announcing her run for governor of Texas. If you are a US citizen, this election effects you whether or not you live in Texas. Texas Republicans are the most right-wing, heavily financed Republicans in the country, so even a great opponent like Wendy Davis has an uphill fight. But it’s not a hopeless fight, and if you can kick in a few bucks to help her out, the chances of putting an end to the Republican reign of error are much better.

She’s trying to raise $80,000 for her campaign war chest by midnight October 1. Click the picture to donate. Even if you can’t donate, reblog to show support, please.

(I’m not associated with her campaign in any way, just a fan and a Texan who desperately wants the Republicans out of power here.)

I usually (at least not consciously) reblog political stuff but I feel this is important.

Screw writing “strong” women. Write interesting women. Write well-rounded women. Write complicated women. Write a woman who kicks ass, write a woman who cowers in a corner. Write a woman who’s desperate for a husband. Write a woman who doesn’t need a man. Write women who cry, women who rant, women who are shy, women who don’t take no shit, women who need validation and women who don’t care what anybody thinks. They are all okay, and all those things could exist in the same woman. Women shouldn’t be valued because we are strong, or kick-ass, but because we are people. So don’t focus on writing characters who are strong. Write characters who are people.
