It’s been a long time coming, folks. 14 months of dedicated work for 93 contributors has produced the largest Homestuck album of all time, centered on the Beforan trolls!
Beforus features:
82 all new original Homestuck tracks by as many as 43 different fan musicians.
A fantastic library of gorgeous track art drawn by our art team of 45 skilled visual artists.
An exclusive behind-the-scenes commentary booklet featuring the art and in-depth commentary on each track from both its musician and visual artist!
Be sure to listen to the album, look at the art and check out all the wonderful contributors who have helped to make Beforus a reality!
Be sure to check the bandcamp and commentary booklet for full contributor credits! It’s bundled with the downloads.
Thank you for everyone for being so supportive of this project over the the time we’ve been putting it together! Beforus could never have been made without your overwhelming efforts to support the project. I think the project really stands as a testament to what we, the fandom, can do when we all band together. Homestuck ends tomorrow, and I think that this release is a fitting way to celebrate.
I hope you all enjoy the end of Homestuck!
(And stay tuned to our blog in the future for some special secret dlc…)
ARE YOU A DIRTY SKELETON LOVER? DO YOU LOVE UNDERTALE REMIXES? DO YOU WANNA HAVE A GOOD TIME?? well buckle in, kiddos, because this humble track right here is actually the BEST Megalovania remix out there AND I’M ABOUT TO TELL YOU WHY IN ENTHUSIASTIC BULLET POINTS (spoilers ahead for genocide / Bad Time route)
first, this track isn’t what you expect. this track is sneaky. this track tricks you into thinking it’s slow and laid-back.the transition from “chill” to “literally on fire” is so smooth you won’t even know what hit you
i.e. this track is Sans
from a musical standpoint, this has really great pacing, and it’s mixed very well. nothing sounds off-balance, flat, or clipped, and it doesn’t end the same way it starts. that may not sound like much but trust me it’s important and good!!
from a less musical standpoint, it sounds a bit like Daft Punk singing along to a Megaman game and I think that’s rad
and ok holy crap guys. GUYS.
listen to 3:11. listen to that one second very closely
that’s Flowey’s laugh in the background
I’VE LISTENED TO THIS PROBABLY 37 TIMES AND I’VE ONLY JUST NOTICED
AND THAT’S NOT ALL
from 3:12 on, Sans’ speech is part of the beat, which is hecka cool
oh, and Flowey’s in there too
and Papyrus, Toriel, Undyne, Alphys, everyone.even Gaster. EVEN FREAKIN GASTER YOU GUYS
(SkyFoxx confirmed this in a comment)
their voices are integrated SO WELL I just accepted the beat as a cohesive whole without question. listen closely enough and you can parse them all out, it’s amazing
and lastly, that sample at the end. sweet mother of all goats, that sample is the final tasty touch on this cinnamon-buttersound pie.
it’s also a fantastic reminder of what you have to do in order to hear Megalovania in-game in the first place.
in the end, this track isn’t just Sans; it embodies him, everyone he’s fighting for, and the reason he needs to fight at all.
tl;dr, this remix is a friggin masterpiece and it seriously needs more recognition.
Led through the mist, By the milk-light of moon, All that was lost, is revealed. Our long bygone burdens, mere echoes of the spring, But where have we come, and where shall we end? If dreams can’t come true, then why not pretend?
Oh how the gentle wind, Beckons through the leaves, As autumn colors fall… Dancing in a swirl of golden memories, The loveliest lies of all.
This is the “radio” version of the pop hit “Haven’t You Noticed (I’m a Star)” sung by Olivia Olson, composed by Rebecca Sugar and with guitar work by Stemage! (We sampled Rebecca’s uke demo track, too!)
Aivi and I had a blast arranging this one, pop music is my jam so trying to nail that Max Martin/Dr. Luke earworm vibe in the production was definitely a priority.
