So as this is likely the first government shutdown in the memory of most if not all of the people posting here on tumblr (I was 8 in 1995), it might be helpful to refresh our memories on what exactly is going to happen when the federal government doesn’t have a budget.

Wendy Davis is going to be announcing her run for governor of Texas. If you are a US citizen, this election effects you whether or not you live in Texas. Texas Republicans are the most right-wing, heavily financed Republicans in the country, so even a great opponent like Wendy Davis has an uphill fight. But it’s not a hopeless fight, and if you can kick in a few bucks to help her out, the chances of putting an end to the Republican reign of error are much better. 

She’s trying to raise $80,000 for her campaign war chest by midnight October 1. Click the picture to donate. Even if you can’t donate, reblog to show support, please.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has passed a draconian law that calls for the arrest of anyone who is openly gay or supportive of gay rights.

So apparently SB5 passed but the vote was taken after midnight. The President is claiming that the people’s cheers are a “time out” and so they can extend time to the clock.

The roll call was taken at 12:03, so past midnight. 

Republicans, who have been following the rule book to the letter today, are  now willing to throw it out the window for their own agenda.
