- the shore tourists all come from new york. they seem so new every year. so fresh. so stubborn. so clueless. we are so thirsty.
- the turnpike is known to be ugly, full of traffic, smelly. and for good reason – to keep you away. what is the stench now that the garbage dumps have been covered? what happened to those garbage dumps? what feeds off them?

- the jersey devil rests peacefully among us. but it’s not he who takes the children, for he is merely a red herring – the children come looking, and they know.
- every may the teenagers stay in the motels of cape may and seaside heights. the beach prepares for its annual cleansing. the sand shifts.
- in the morning commute, perhaps one worker will become fed up at the delays, the stops, and step out. whatever jammed the wheels waits.
